NDH5 welcomed the top double act of UK indy cinema - the fabulous Blaine brothers in Oct 2014, Bifa-nomm'd short film directors who've just made the leap to feature with their debut Nina Forever, a magic realist tale of grief and sex with a darkly comic undertone, starring Fiona O’Shaughnessy (Utopia), Abigail Hardingham (Broadchurch) and Cian Barry (Real Playing Game)
They came-of-age with short films such as the award-winning Film4 Cinema Extreme “Hallo Panda”, the BIFA-nominated “0507” and Edinburgh-nominated “Death Of The Revolution”), award-winning sketches for BBC Comedy (featuring Foster’s Best Newcomer Cariad Lloyd), whilst editing TV comedy shows such as Bad Education, directing a whole bunch of virals and music videos & critically-acclaimed Edinburgh comedy shows.
Their independently-minded methods have resulted in a career involving pandas, penguins, ballerinas, blood, bikes, babies and amazing actors young and old, and enough ups and downs to fill many fun and revealing nights of NDH.
Ben & Chris were awesome, showing clips from their award-winning shorts Hallo Panda and 05 07, and we even got a sneak peak of Nina Forever, which looks amazing...we will be supporting Nina on its release.
Since the session, we are very pleased to report on Nina's success:
- Winner Best Film in the Total Film FrightFest Awards
- Winner, Special Jury Prize in the Melbourne Underground Film Fest
- Winner of the Méliès d’Argent, Lund International Fantastic Film Festival
It will be coming to UK cinemas Feb 2016.
Thanks so much to Ben and Chris, who were so open and generous to spend time recounting
their experiences, invaluable & ins stuff. Follow them here: http://blainebrothers.co.uk
